In an interview conducted recently, the President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke responded to the comments of some politicians that the Federal government cannot borrow money to meet the demand of the union. He said information from “interlopers” should not be the same as stakeholders involved in the decision-making process and did not provide an update.
He however said that the agreement was reached but the delay was caused by the Federal government.
In summary, he said: “Do you believe the FG has no money? Is Umahi the FG? Has the Minister of Education said this? Has the Minister of Finance said this? They can borrow money to buy cars for Niger Republic, to feed school children, but they cannot borrow to fund education. We are also tired. If they want to close all the universities, they should”.
