She added, “Lubik was convicted of assaulting four female athletes, including a minor who was 13 at the time, according to Globo Esport, which did not specify the ages of the other female athletes.”
The media indicated that “the verdict can be appealed even after Lubis maintains his innocence, knowing that he will not go to prison until the end of any possible appeal.”
The former coach oversaw the young gymnast for 20 years, before being dropped from Brazil’s national team staff in 2016, a month before the Rio Olympics, following complaints from the young athlete’s parents.
In April 2019, he was banned for life from any gymnastics-related activities.
Lubisch faces other charges. Four years ago, about 40 athletes claimed to the “Globo” channel that they were subjected to mental, physical and sexual abuse.
Some of them participated in legal proceedings as witnesses to incidents that allegedly took place between 1999 and 2016.
