As the national anthem played, outgoing Lebanese President Michel Aoun walked from the presidential palace in Babada to address hundreds of supporters on Sunday.

One day before Aoun’s six-year term officially ends but without a successor, the country is left in an unprecedented situation as the presidency remains vacant while leading a caretaker government.

In a speech, he said he had signed a decree declaring the resignation of Najib Mikati’s government.
