France: More than 1000 flights canceled due to strike

ISMAIL ABDEL HAI – The General Administration of Civil Aviation announced Thursday that airlines will cancel at least 1,000 flights in France, due to a strike by air traffic controllers that was announced in advance on Friday.

On Tuesday, the administration called on airlines to cut flight programs between France and overseas regions by 50%.

The strike comes after the air traffic controllers’ most prominent union called for a pay hike and compensation for the inflation the country is experiencing.

“According to the first information provided by the companies, around 1,000 flights to or from French territory will be cancelled,” a spokesman for the General Administration of Civil Aviation told AFP.
